At their community forum in May OPALCO said their wireless antenna system buildout could be paid for by added charges to your monthly bill. Maybe $10 or more per month.
That does not seem fair to me. I think it is worse than a regressive tax. We got rid of the Washington State grocery sales tax because it unfairly burdened those who were financially strapped. Those taxes were a larger percentage of a poor family's income than the wealthy. So it was regressive. Everyone buys food so the tax couldn't be avoided.
What OPALCO is suggesting is possibly worse. Not everyone will be able to afford their wireless broadband or may geographically be in an area that cannot be serviced. Therefore, any monthly charge increase is like a tax to pay for something they don't want or cannot get.
That doesn't seem right.
